A Guide To Riding Twisted Oaks Bike Park
Which road is that parking on, fed up of paying the costs of High Lodge 😂
If you want the security of a paid carpark, park at Brandon Lodge, it's much cheaper. Has a cafe and wc. Or just park in any of the many laybys (but remember wich one)
Agree with the comment, best place ideally is Brandon country park, cheap, security and right next to great off piste trails. But this video I parked on the fire road near the bottom of the beast, where the bottom of the beast is, turn left and the first fire road on the left on BCP side of the road. I only did this so I could carry my tools up to trim those bushes more easily - I usually park in Thetford as have an annual pass for all FE sites but do agree it’s a bit steep for a day 😅
when you dropped in and it made you swear, that made me chuckle :)
nice car btw!
Haha made me laugh too how steep it ended up being 😆 thought I was gonna go over the bars haha
Hi thanks for this post, I went through this trail yesterday June 2024, it’s really good fun however it’s overgrown with vegetation, branches and bracken impeding the trail in most places. It’s free but it does need some maintenance. It’s also slightly different now.
i have the Hemy socks which keep my feet dry, do you use seal skinz or similar?
I thought it said "Trek Remedy 5 - year review" like you bought an older Remedy 5 and put it through the ringer . I didn't realize the title meant Trek Remedy 8, one year review. I bought a remedy 5 a couple of years ago, and its plenty of bike for anything I will ever do. Besides, it fit my budget at the time. YMMV 😉
Love the look of your new bike 🚲 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks! It’s great 😄
A bit late to the party 😅 this video was filmed in late November but make sure to stay tuned as more exciting videos are coming out in the next few weeks!
The riding is spectacular in this wood. Decent uphills and downhills, jumps, obstacles, and the occasional log. Most with easier routes if you need them. It also has a nice mix of horses, dogs, cyclists, adults, children, and tons of wildlife in space. Lots of birds and squirrels for starters, deer too. Serene with distinct seasonal changes, it's navigable almost all year round with the right tyres: the 'wet shallow mud on a hard base' sections can provide some entertaining sideways off-season moments. There will also be times when you have no choice but to ride through pedal-deep bog, and on one occasion it rained so much the grease got completely washed out of the bike's crown and headset. It was a squeaky and gravelly ride home. Your poor arse will thank you for full suspension: Bacton is not short of roots. It has more roots than Roots Manuva having a root canal while driving on Route 66 in a Rutabega-coloured Winnibego. It's great as it is, and would benefit from maintenance at the same time. An awkward un-banked 90-degree left-hander at the bottom of one downhill section can be a bit of a sphincter-puckerer, and the log jumps in one of the centre sections could be a little more accessible. Good to see someone blasting through them all though. There is a volunteer team who tidies the trails and I know of at least one guy who built rideable see-saws and other tricks in there.
The trail at 4:13 is honestly the worst bit of trail building I've ever come across, it should be a lesson in how not to build a trail, it's a complete disaster, and it doesn't flow at all.
Haha so true!
What camera set up do you use for your videos?
GoPro Hero 10 black on chest harness, Max lens mod, foam wrap around as the wind muffler 🙌
@@TrailTrialerMTB cheers!
Heading there today
have you got a map of this route please ?
Not a route but if you head towards Weybourne station from Sheringham park you’ll find the majority of the trails on the last hill before the station 🙌
looks like you need to know where you are going before riding other wise you'll spend most of the time looking where to go. No good unless its maintained or way marked
It's not too bad - just think of it as a slightly lop-sided square with the car park in the '2' position on a clock face. If you get lost, just keep riding in the same direction until you get to a bit you recognise. If you hit the edge of the woods (road or field), turn either left or right and follow the edge until you get back to the car park. The perimeter is only 2km-3km depending on the specific path you take.
This is so well made! Excellent video!
This video was actually filmed back in September! More to come in the coming weeks!
Do you have a complete map of the trail? That trail on the cliff from sheringham to weybourne is a bike trail also? Thanks!
The trail on the cliff isn’t supposed to be a bike trail and only for walkers, but as it was a quiet day we went that way as we did a full circular route. And I don’t have a route as such but if you check out Strava heat maps it shows where the trails are located nearby to weybourne station on the hill.
@@TrailTrialerMTB thanks for the info mate 🍻
Whether it's good or bad depends on what you want or expect. For an old codger (67) like me the Blue Doon looks just right. I'm not really interested in setting to top time. Just an interesting slightly (and I do mean slightly) challenging trail.
Nothing like thetford! Pines is loads better and certainly not flat.
Nice! Looks like you hit it in good weather! Never knew there was more trails at fort william! 😁🤙
Yeah! There’s even a couple more than this video but they’re worth it if you have the time!
@@TrailTrialerMTB sweet! I've never ridden at Fort william it's been on the cards for years. One day!
The last video from our Scotland trip and of 2023!! Here’s to 2024, many new adventures, experiences and bike videos!
Brilliant video, looks like I’ll be heading to Laggan soon
It’s even better now! Since this video they’ve added some new trails!
I walked this trail in September this year was a good walk down
what tyres did you decide to get?
Maxxis Minion DHF 2.5 for the front and DHR 2.4 for the rear 🙌
@@TrailTrialerMTB Thanks :)
nice video
Is the red route quite easy
Definitely, even more so now since this video was filmed.
Nice vid, was up there a couple of weeks ago so much fun, you rode it well 🤙
What kind of camera did you use mate, it’s nice
Hero 10 black, Max Lens mod with wind mufflers. Also a DJI Mini 2 for drone shots
Very nice
You should go to Ken hill in Norfolk great fun
Laggan video is out! Thoroughly enjoyed this ride wanna go back badly! Make sure to stay tuned for the next video on Fort William!
Been here many times but not on a bike. After watching this I think I’m gonna have to give it a whirl
Hey mate, I know it’s a long shot seeing as it’s been two years since the video came out but I was wondering how you mounted the shock in the bike I’m looking to replace my rear shock with a fox float X and don’t understand how to get the correct spacing for the mounts. Thanks
I got everything from a company called TF Tuned. If you look up on their website they should be able to provide the mounting kit for you to swap the shock straight over 🙌 as long as the shock is 230x57.5 or 230x60 you’ll be good 👍
Love those three trail centres. If you get time try to add Tarland Trails (the new ones) and Gelnlivet red to your trip! Incredible rides!
Already home unfortunately 😫 but we wanted to ride both of those, but just didn’t have the time… that means a second trip is necessary though 😅😆
Great video, desperate to get back up to the Cairngorms and Aviemore haven’t been up their for sometime. Long way from down here in Norwich 😞
Yeah it’s gorgeous! Such a shame it’s such a long drive 🥲
These videos keep getting better every time. The drone, smooth GoPro footage, and the on screen time stamps just make it mint! Keep it up! 🙌
Haha thanks! I officially have the full BKXC setup plus a drone 😆
Part 1 of our Scotland trip is out! Make sure to stay tuned for the next videos which get even better!
This trail isn't maintained or really riden anymore. My youngest and I ride it perhaps twice a month but its pretty much vanished
That’s a shame. Is there much still up there at all? Haven’t been since this video
@TrailTrialerMTB not really no. The top section with the bigger rollers is still there but all the smaller berms have gone. Its still fun but in a "off piste" kinda way
Went there for first time last month, thought it was very similar level to thetford. Neither was tough, both are good, fun routes for fitness. The campsite in sherwood is good though.
Yeah I completely agree.
As it happens yesterday I rode this trail, I remember I went too fast on one of the turns and went over my handlebars haha. Sherwoodbforest is only about 45 mins from where I live so coming here every now and then isn't too out of the way. Love the tracks and love the forest :)
Haha easily done!
What hub do you have mate
This video I had the Bontrager comp 30 hub with 108 engagement but I now run a nukeproof horizon hub 🙌
Nice work on the video! Looks like a fun local spot, you're gonna have so much fun in Scotland, they have some of the best trails I've ridden!
Omg it’s Eric Porter on my channel?!!! I’ve already been to Scotland! Currently editing the videos right now 😆 Fort William and top chief was a blast!
Make sure to stay tuned for next weeks video!! We’re off to 🏴 for the next 5 weeks videos!! Make sure to share this video round too!
These videos just keep getting better and better! Keep it up 🙌
Thanks for the video! We're planning to head to Sherwood Pines in October, so handy to see a review!
Compared to my local at Thetford and from the other opinions I’d heard, I was pleasantly surprised. It’s not a particularly tough trail but it makes for a nice XC route 😆
Just be cautious using the drone in Thetford, I believe the airspace is protected there due to the Lakenheath base planes training regularly. Great video BTW. My regular/local trails.
Thanks. And it’s ok I have a CAA pilots license and everything is ok, only the red areas are restricted and most of Thetfords side falls into the blue warning zone which means I can fly it with authorisation. If planes are flying it won’t even let me take off 😆😆
@TrailTrialerMTB Good to hear mate, my dji spark won't take off there either. Gives me a warning.
@@theadhdbiker6493 Yeah it’s a 50/50 chance sometimes they will sometimes they won’t. I think the newer minis will more than the spark as they have newer software that limits them etc so they fly within the limits.
Also I did see your FB comment 😅 I have subbed back 🙌
@@TrailTrialerMTB legend, thanks dude
amazing video!
Thanks!
Nice to see your videos back. What did you use to work out your routes? Heading from Norwich up to the Peak District next weekend and undecided where to ride atm 😊
Cheers 🙌 The first ride I memorised the route and used snap maps to figure where I was 😆 the second day in this video we just rode around and ended up back at the car so nothing too technical unfortunately 😅
Great to see you back! Look forward to your upcoming vide dude 🙌
